An earthquake of 6.5 magnitude shook the Pidie Jaya, Aceh and causing dozens of buildings collapsed. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) directly instructed officials to move to the location.
"This morning I have received the report, I ordered the whole apparatus to move the appropriate authority," said Jokowi at the State Palace Jl Veteran, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (12/07/2016).
The quake occurred at 5:03 pm. Residents immediately scrambled out of their homes.
At least 18 people have died in this earthquake. While this is still dozens of people buried under collapsed buildings.
The tremor was also felt in Banda Aceh, Bireuen, Pidie, and a number of other areas. The earthquake was caused by active faults and no tsunami potential.

Gempa bumi 6,5 SR mengguncang Pidie Jaya, Aceh dan menyebabkan puluhan bangunan roboh. Presiden Joko Widodo (Jokowi) langsung perintahkan aparat untuk bergerak ke lokasi.
"Tadi pagi saya sudah mendapatkan laporan, saya perintahkan seluruh aparat untuk bergerak sesuai otoritasnya," kata Jokowi di Istana Negara, Jl Veteran, Jakarta Pusat, Rabu (7/12/2016).
Gempa tersebut terjadi pukul 05.03 WIB. Warga langsung berhamburan ke luar rumah mereka.
Sedikitnya 18 orang meninggal dunia akibat gempa ini. Sementara ini hingga kini masih ada puluhan orang yang tertimbun bangunan yang runtuh.
Getaran gempa juga terasa hingga Banda Aceh, Bireun, Pidie, dan sejumlah wilayah lain. Gempa bumi ini disebabkan oleh sesar aktif dan tidak berpotensi tsunami.
