Direktur De Young Museum, Max Hollein, mengungkapkan, telah menjadwalkan 'The Fashion of Islam' untuk musim gugur 2018. Hal ini hendak dilakukan dengan melihat kesuksesan dari sebuah perhelatan berjudul 'Faith, Fashion, Fusion' yang baru-baru ini digelar di Australia, dengan mengeksplorasi pasar untuk busana sederhana dari Muslim.
"Mungkin ada orang yang bahkan tidak berpikir ada mode dalam Islam, tapi jika Anda melihat Arab Saudi, Dubai dan Beirut, fashion benar-benar bergeliat dan dapat seiring dengan perkembangan politik dan sosial yang lebih besar, yaitu pemahaman budaya dan kesalah pahaman," kata Hollein seperti dilansir New York Times, Rabu (29/12).
Ide Hollein bertujuan mendekati subyek dari perspektif yang berbeda, meleniti gaya dalam Islam dibentuk, dan berusaha menghindari munculnya arogansi dari tren fashion global. Salah satu bagian dari pertujunkan, akan menampilkan interpretasi dari jilbab oleh desainer-desainer Islam dan Eropa, dari Iman Aldebe dan Hussein Chalayan sampai Dolce & Gabbana.
Pagelaran turut menampilkan aspek olahraga, sekaligus untuk menyikapi larangan burkini yang telah melanda pantai-pantai di Prancis. Namun, pagelaran ini tidak akan melupakan aspek-aspek sejarah, dengan menunjukkan contoh-conth baju Muslim tradisional, bekerja sama dengan beberapa ulama dan ahli untuk mengembangkan proyek itu dibidang sejarah.
