Isi surat tersebut yaitu memohon agar hakim memerintahkan untuk melakukan penahanan terhadap Gubernur DKI Jakarta nonaktif tersebut.
"Di hadapan majelis hakim, pada intinya saya menyampaikan surat kepada hakim surat permohonan penahanan, karena Ahok sudah mengulangi perbuatannya lagi," kata Novel.Saat menjadi saksi, dia juga melaporkan peristiwa-peristiwa Ahok yang kerap mengutip Surat Al-Maidah, antara lain ketika baru dilaporkan pada 6 Oktober 2016 ternyata sebelumnya Ahok di Balai Kota pada 7 Oktober menyampaikan bahwa yang menggunakan dan membela Al-Maidah itu rasis dan pengecut.
