In addition, scholars and researchers from both universities can visit each other's training needs short and long term. Khlot Thyda said it also provides language training Khmer (the national language of Cambodia) for staff and students of UMM.

Sejak tiga tahun terakhir, telah banyak warga Kamboja yang belajar di Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Jawa Timur, baik sebagai mahasiswa reguler maupun maupun melalui jalur beasiswa Dharmasiswa. Hal itu menjadi salah satu alasan kedatangan Rektor Royal Academy of Cambodia (RAC), Khlot Thyda, ke UMM, Jumat (6/1).

Lawatannya ditandai dengan penandatangan nota kesepahaman (MoU) antara UMM dan RAC. Beberapa poin MoU di antaranya program pertukaran staf, dosen, dan mahasiswa untuk studi banding, mengajar, maupun penelitian.

Selain itu, para sarjana dan peneliti dari kedua universitas dapat saling mengunjungi untuk kebutuhan pelatihan jangka pendek dan panjang. Khlot Thyda mengatakan, pihaknya juga menyediakan pelatihan bahasa Khmer (bahasa nasional Kamboja) bagi staf dan mahasiswa UMM.

Begitu juga sebaliknya, pihak RAC berkesempatan untuk belajar bahasa Indonesia. Tak kalah penting, RAC bakal mengirim lima mahasiswa yang memperoleh beasiswa untuk menempuh studi di UMM. Kerja sama strategis lainnya berupa pertukaran informasi dan publikasi.

Pada kesempatan ini, Khlot Thyda juga menyampaikan penghargaannya terhadap Indonesia atas keberhasilan menangkal dampak negatif modernisme. Apresiasi itu disampaikan saat didaulat mengisi kuliah tamu di hadapan sejumlah mahasiswa Program Pasca Sarjana (PPS) dan dosen UMM.

Menurut Khlot, di tengah gencarnya modernisasi global, Indonesia tetap bisa mempertahankan budaya aslinya. “Kamboja perlu belajar kepada Indonesia dalam hal menjaga kebudayaannya,” kata perempuan yang telah berusia lebih dari 60 tahun tersebut, dalam siaran pers.

Rektor UMM, Fauzan berharap, kerja sama yang dibangun dalam bidang akademik ini dapat berjalan dengan nyata dan memberi manfaat bagi kedua belah pihak.
